Here's some background on the woman, previously dubbed “Waity Katie” who had the last laugh, marrying her Prince and who will someday be Queen. Kate Middleton was born 9 January 1982 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, and her full name being Catherine Elizabeth Middleton. She is the eldest of three children born to Michael and Carole Middleton. When Kate was born, Michael was an airline officer and mum Carole an air hostess. However, since then Kate's parents have become millionaires thanks to their company Party Pieces, a mail order company that sells children's party goods. Kate has a younger sister Philippa, known as Pippa, and younger brother James.
Kate attended St Andrew's School, Pangbourne, moving to the prestigious £15,000-a-year Marlborough College when she was 13 where she was a keen netball and hockey player. There she obtained eleven GCSEs and three A-levels in Chemsitry, Biology and Art. On leaving in 2000, Kate went on a gap year to Florence where she studied at the British Institute. She also crewed on Round the World Challenge boats in the Solent. And she went on a Raleigh International Programme in Chile. In 2001, Kate began her History of Art degree course at the historic St Andrews University in Scotland- Prince William was also on this course, although he later transferred to study Geography. It was whilst at university the pair became friends, then flatmates before romance blossomed reportedly around Christmas in 2003.
She graduated in 2005 with a 2:1 (Upper Second-Class) MA (Hons) degree in History of Art and went on to work for fashion chain Jigsaw as a part-time accessories buyer.
In April 2007, it was reported the couple had broken up with Prince William feeling he was too young to marry. However, by the summer of the same year, a reconciliation looked to be on the cards with the pair being spotted together in public and Kate attending Prince William’s investiture into the Order of the Garter.
Kate and William got engaged in October 2010 in Kenya, East Africa on a ten-day trip and officially announced their engagement on 16 November 2010.
They married on 29 April 2011, St Catherine's Day at Westminster Abbey with an estimated worldwide audience of more than 2 billion.
